3ET: The “Features” Tab

When running an exercise, the program will display a table of interesting sentence units under the chosen sentence. For example, thus:

3ET

The sentence units (in this case words) are marked in red in the sentence, and the table below shows the features text, tense, and voice and the program asks about number and person. The first three are the so-called “shown” features, while the last two are the “requested” features.

The “Features” tab indicates which features to show and which features to request.

If the exercise is loaded through the File > Load exercise menu item, the tab may look like this:

3ET

If the exercise is loaded through the File > Edit exercise or File > New exercise menu item, the tab may look like this:

3ET

Here you can place marks in the three columns, depending on whether the associated feature should be shown, requested or not used.

This tab is closely related to the choice of sentence units. The type of the sentence unit determines what features to display in the “Features” tab. Different sentence units have different features. In the example above, the sentence unit is a word; and in the selected database, words can have the features listed here.

The feature list is sorted alphabetically except for the text feature, which is always at the top. The text feature refers to the actual characters that make up the sentence unit. Note that this may include punctuation marks.
